WORLD RECORD BELLY DANCING EVENT

Just 5 minutes to the start of the Belly Dancing we were still 55 people short to break the World Record. A few more announcements on the tannoy and people came flooding in paying their £5 entry fee.
A total of 167 people took part in a Belly Dancing event on Liberation Day 2006 in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record, and also to raise money for Aid Reaching Children.
Everyone had loads of fun. The youngest person was 5 years old and the oldest was 91. Everyone had to dance for 5 minutes all doing the same routine. Some people dressed for the event and some of the men just rolled their shirts up and exposed their bare bellies. (Not a pretty sight). The event was filmed and had two adjudicators and the results were sent off to Guinness World Records.
Unfortunately we were not successful this time. Although they told us the record was 137 at the time they then had another dance club submit an entry the September before and apparently they now hold the record.
Never mind it was all good fun and over £1,600 was raised for the charity. Who knows we may try it again one day. Thank you to everyone who took part and below are a few of the photo’s taken on the day. WELL DONE
