These children are Tsunami affected. Their house was totally destroyed. Now they have built a house with the money the government gave them but there was not enough to complete the roof and windows, so they have to live in a shed next door. With short term sponsorship these people will be able to get their house finished and they can start living in it.The parents work but would never be able to earn enough for the family to move into their new home.( New house now being built Thank you for all donations, Mr Roussel and family, also Sarnian Roofing)

These 4 children have been abandoned by their parents. It is quite common practice when a marraige breaks up that the children are left to be brought up by the grandparents. In this case, only the grandmother is looking after the children. They live in a mud hut on the edge of a paddy field in the jungle, have no water and survive on the rice that has been left or dropped by the people working in the paddy field. Since posting this information this families home has been struck by a thunderbolt and had all there electricity knocked out. We will be trying to get somebody to fund the rewiring of this house so they have some light for the very dark evenings (This family are now sponsored and have electricity)

This family live in a shed no bigger than a large garden shed. There is nothing in it except 3 school bags which are balanced on a piece of wood by the roof so they dont get wet. The shed gets flooded every time it rains. There are 3 roll up mats which the family sleep on and a few pots which the mother uses to cook outside. The mother is suffering from mental health problems and doesn't work. This family is now sponsored but they desperately need a new house.

This family have been torn apart in the last year. The father had to undergo a kidney transplant. An appeal went out on tv stations across Sri Lanka and a donor from the north came forward. The operation was performed in March but sadly 3 months later he rejected the kidney and passed away. The mother has been left to bring up 3 children but the second youngest is also suffering from cancer. We now have two sponsors for this family both intend to visit in the near future. |

This young man was the Kidney donor for the man above. He travelled from North Sri Lanka to help by donating one of his kidneys. Since the operation he has been unable to work and his family have disowned him because he gave one of his organs away. He is now good friends with the rest of the family but has nowhere to live. Different families have been accommodating him. A volunteer who travelled to Sri Lanka with A.R.C (Julie Gavey) heard that the young man is struggling and has agreed to sponsor him. She said he had been kind enough to give someone the chance of a better life and she wants to help him until he is able to support himself.

This is one of the saddest stories we have heard since working in Sri Lanka. This little girl was saved in the Tsunami she was 6 months old. Her uncle took her up a tree by grasping her clothing in his teeth. Her mother died in the Tsunami and her father moved in with his mum so they could try to move on. All was going well until recently. (Read more) |

These two children were found in a rented shed with their mother and brother. They hadn't eaten for days and had to beg at the railway station to get what ever they could. The roof of the shed was about to fall in so we had to move them immediately. We have paid 6 months rent on a house until we can do something better for them in the mean time they are being sponsored by one of our volunteers. |
