SPONSORSHIP PROGRAMME IN SRI LANKA

We have started up a sponsorship programme for families with children and for the orphans of two orphanages that we visit when we return to Sri Lanka. Depending on the size of the family we have set a reasonable figure of £10 a month for a family of 4, or £15 for a family of up to 6 if anyone is interested in sponsoring they can get hold of A.R.C on 077811033369, Or you can make a donation through paypal, (see our donation page for details) A.R.C have a lot of families on their books and you will be able to choose your own child or children to sponsor, you will also get an opportunity to travel to Sri Lanka to visit your family.

Each child that is sponsored has their own bank account set up. Each sponsor will receive a letter and photo’s on a regular basis and will also get copies of their sponsored childs school report to show their progress. If anyone would like to sponsor any of the boys in these orphanages that can also be arranged. A.R.C has a local Sri Lankan lady (Deepika) working for them, who is absolutely dedicated to the cause and is very highly thought of in Sri Lanka. She has opened bank accounts for all the children that has found sponsors so far, and the children cannot take money from the account without her signature, this safeguards their money in case anyone tries to get it out of their accounts. If the child needs anything for school or clothing they go to see Deepika and she takes them to get it. NO money is ever just handed to them as it would be taken from them. Their food is bought on a weekly basis so they never go short. As Deepika is on the ground over there this enables us to stay in Guernsey fundraising instead of travelling back and forward every couple of months which  wastes so much money that could be put to better use. Please see below just a few of the families that need your help. Thank you in advance of any help you may be able to offer

This family lost their house on the day we were returning back to the uk. We dont have too many details but know that the house blew down in a gale and all they have left is a small kitchen which you can see behind them. The neighbours are letting them sleep at their houses but they are desperate to rebuild and would benefit from being sponsored if only for their food and clothing. £15 a month is all they need until they can get on their feet again.

Another family living in one of the smallest houses we've come across is in need of support to help with food, clothing and school equipment for the children. The family lost their house in the Tsunami. The father earns very little by buying fish at the market and then going inland to sell them for a profit. Some days he cycles 3km inland to try and sell the fish. The house is so small they can only fit a bed in it and all 5 sleep on it. We would like a sponsor who would kindly give £15 a month to help these people rebuild their lives.

This family lost their house in the Tsunami they live in Balapitiya. Surya the father travels to Hikkaduwa and sells shell ornaments on the beach to who ever is around. As the tourist industry is struggling most of the time Hikkaduwa is like a ghost town. He was given money by the government but not enough as is the story of most people. A.R.C are hoping to finish his house for him. His children are very poorly and need constant medication. We are looking for someone to sponsor them for a short period to enable them to get medication and food for the children. Again £15 would be ample. If anyone could help we would be most grateful. Thank you

RUHUNU STATE ORPHANAGE

All these children are resident in the Ruhunu State Home. They go there straight from the hospital after they've been born. Some are born to mothers that have been raped, and some are born out of wedlock and are therefore given up at birth. Many of these children spend the first 14 years of their lives in homes unless they are lucky enough to be adopted in their early years. A.R.C visit this home on a regular basis and is now one of the only foreign NGO's to be allowed into the home. We are trying to help at the moment by finding a sponsor to supply nappies for these babies. At present they only have one nappy change a day because the home is on very limited funding from the government and cant afford to buy nappies. If you would like to make a donation towards buying nappies or if you would like to sponsor on a larger scale please contact us.We have 28 babies here with over 40 young toddlers under 5. One nappy cost 28 rupees.

We also have one severely handicapped young boy at this home who is in a cot all day long. We feel he would benefit from a specially adapted bed so that he can be moved easier. Some days he is left in a urine soaked bed for long periods at a time and is likely to get bed sores, which in time would lead to infection if not treated. This boy needs our help to get him the special equipment that would make him a little more comfortable. If you feel you can help once again please contact us.
