Guernsey team Grease Lightning returned home on Saturday from a very action packed Ramshackle Rally from Calais to Krakow. One Hundred and Eleven teams registered for this years rally and only 80 finished. Aid Reaching Children’s all women team (the only all womens team in the rally) members Linda Garnham, Nell Broome, Joanne Bean and Jayne Aslett held 2^nd position for 3 days running and after the final challenge slipped down to 5^th place albeit a very impressive 5^th place.

The rally seen the girls driving up to 10 hours a day with challenges to complete, and then having to desperately seek a room for the night as no one knew in advance if the car would make it to the next destination. The team personally funded this trip and raised sponsorship of over £2,000 towards A.R.C’s projects.

We returned to Guernsey exhausted but was still in hysterics at the thought of 4 men dressed as cows getting arrested in Tesco’s in Bratislavia for not carrying their passports and two of our team getting stuck in the airport customs at the border of Switzerland and France. One of the challenges was to get as many photographs of the team and car with a policeman/woman in as many countries as possible. We thought we were being smart and getting two for the price of one using the border, however, after being told to go through customs by the French police to get to the Swiss police we then found ourselves stuck as we didn’t have our passports to get back.  Big lesson to all would be rally drivers  ‘Carry your passport at all times’.

In addition to raising funds this time for the charity we also wanted this experience with the intention of organising our own Banger rally direct from Guernsey in 2008.
