Happy with his new Hearing Aids

Hearing Aids donated by Medical Specialist Group |

Ear Moulds |
Prabet is a young boy who A.R.C came across whilst visiting Baranasoriya Boys Home in Hikkaduwa. He and the boys at the home had actually made a hole in the fence that we had erected to make it easy for him to get in the home to play with some of the boys. He was profoundly deaf and struggled to communicate with the boys and became agitated and frustrated by this. We met him on our 5th visit and went to visit his mother. She explained that Prabet had once had a hearing aid, but it broke and they could not afford to get it repaired. On investigating this further it was discovered that Prabet had not had a hearing aid for over two years, he was now unable to attend school as communication was very difficult for him. A.R.C arranged for Prabet to go and have a hearing test in Colombo and bought the results back to Guernsey. Linda went to see Jayne Lloyd at Mill House to see if there was anything they could do to help. Jayne said she would do all she could to help and gave Linda some gel to make ear moulds on the next visit. This was to enable her to get a perfect fit for the new hearing aids. Prabet was so excited and on our last visit we gave him two new hearing aids which were kindly donated by Jayne Lloyd and Mike Andrews at the medical specialist group. It was also his birthday and when we arrived his mum told us that he had got up at 5am that morning and had already had two showers so he looked nice for us. ARC gave Prabets mum some money to take him to the doctor to get the hearing aids set properly and to show him how to use them. It was amazing to see in a couple of days that Prabet had started chatting away and was answering us through an interpreter, his pronunciation was remarkably improved. He will now spend the next few months getting used to them and the new sounds around him. Prabet will be readmitted to a specialist school for the deaf in January.
